Who doesn’t remember the old-fashioned S’mores recipe from their childhood! So easy and incredibly yummy. Three simple ingredients from your pantry and a few minutes is all you need to recreate classic s’mores. Make as few or as many as you want.

This recipe can be adjusted to use an air fryer, or go old school if you prefer. Other old-fashioned desserts you may like are these depression era ginger cream cookies and classic mini bundt cakes.

Ingredients Notes

Graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bar on marble countertop.
  • Graham Crackers – Use fresh graham crackers. I prefer the plain variety as the frosted are just to sweet for my taste.
  • Marshmallows – If you use the jumbo size marshmallows, you will only need one per S’more or two of the standard size.
  • Chocolate – Use a chocolate bar made for eating, not bakers chocolate. While traditional s’mores use milk chocolate, experiment with different types of chocolate (dark chocolate, flavored chocolates) or even flavored marshmallows to create unique variations. Go classic and use Hershey bars or use your favorite brand.
  • Optional Ingredients – Update an old-fashioned s’mores recipe by adding extras like sliced strawberries, peanut butter, or even a sprinkle of sea salt for a gourmet twist on the classic s’more.

Three Methods to Make S’mores

Three methods to enjoy S’mores, whether you’re have a gas stove, an air fryer, or embracing the traditional outdoor experience!

  1. Stove-top s’mores are perfect when you want that gooey, chocolatey marshmallow goodness but can’t make a campfire. They’re quick, easy, and just as delicious!
  2. Using an air fryer for s’mores results in perfectly melted chocolate and marshmallows, with a slightly crispy texture from the graham crackers. It’s a hands-off method that’s quick and easy!
  3. Nothing beats the classic outdoor s’mores experience over a campfire. The combination of melted chocolate, gooey marshmallows, and the slight char from the fire creates the ultimate nostalgic treat.

Recipe Tips

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Opt for fresh graham crackers, good quality chocolate bars (like Hershey’s or your favorite), and fluffy soft marshmallows for the best flavor and texture.
  • Prepare Your Ingredients: Break your graham crackers and chocolate into squares beforehand so they’re ready to assemble with the marshmallows.
  • Toast Marshmallows Carefully: Whether over a campfire, on the stove, or in an air fryer, aim to toast marshmallows evenly to achieve a golden brown color and a gooey interior. Rotate the marshmallow slowly over the heat source for even toasting.
  • Warm the Chocolate: Place the chocolate on one of the graham cracker halves near the heat source for a moment before assembling the s’more. This helps the chocolate melt slightly, ensuring a gooey texture.
  • Assembly Matters: When assembling your s’more, place the toasted marshmallow immediately on top of the chocolate. The heat from the marshmallow will start melting the chocolate, enhancing the flavor and texture.
  • Don’t Overcook: Be mindful not to over-toast the marshmallow or heat the assembled s’more too long in the air fryer or on the stove, as this can cause the chocolate to melt too much or the marshmallow to become too gooey and messy.
  • Serve Immediately: S’mores are best enjoyed fresh and warm, so serve them immediately after assembling to ensure you get that perfect combination of textures and flavors.
  • Keep It Clean: S’mores can be messy, so have napkins or wet wipes handy to clean up.
